Chad is a country of contrasting terrain and populations, from the sub-Saharan dry regions of the north through grasslands to the greener regions of the south. The country is majority Muslim but Christians make up a sizeable minority, perhaps 27% of the population of 8 million, mainly to be found in the south. The country is made up of many ethnic groups, and tensions also exist between various political and economic interest groups. There is a sustained Islamist push and the risk of conflict between rebel groups and the government is constant. Chad also hosts a sizeable refugee population from Darfur in neighbouring Sudan.
The Church in Chad needs strengthening in many practical ways, especially training and support for evangelists. The community sees a particular need for education for girls and school or hostel buildings.
