“I felt a deep void not being able to read God’s Word,” says “Kwesi”, a young believer in Ghana.
Kwesi had a Bible – but he had to do his reading in secret because the family who cared for him did not share his faith.
One day he was caught reading, and the Bible was taken away.
Not all young Christians have so dramatic a story as Kwesi. But Barnabas Aid project partners report a serious shortage of Bibles and books of Bible stories.

You can well imagine the void that they all feel without God’s Word.
The psalmist tells us, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105).
Today you can provide that lamp, that light, for your young brothers and sisters in Christ.
Our partners are aiming to supply thousands of young Ghanaian believers with either a book of illustrated Bible stories (for those under the age of 5), a youth Bible (for those between the ages of 6 and 12) or full-text Bible with a study guide (for those above the age of 13).

The main aim of the project is to help these children and young adults to grow in their faith. Regular Bible reading is also an excellent way to improve literacy.
The average cost of each book is only £2.70 ($3.20; €2.90) – but the potential impact is invaluable.
A month after his Bible was confiscated, says Kwesi, “the unexpected happened” – his carers began to read it for themselves.
“Instead of banning it,” he recounts, “they asked me to get five more copies so that the whole family could read it.”
