Urgent appeal for typhoon-affected Christians in Vietnam

17 October 2025

“Thank God my children and I are safe. I just hope the children recover soon, and that we can raise some fish and chickens to survive…”

These are the words of Nguyen, a Christian in Thanh Hoa Province, northern Vietnam.

Nguyen, her husband and children are among the victims of typhoons and floods that have struck South-East Asia in the past few weeks.

Doubtless you can empathise with Nguyen’s mixed emotions – thankfulness to God that she and her family survived mixed with concern about what happens next.

Nguyen and her husband have lost their fish and many of their chickens, their primary source of income. Three of their children have been hospitalised. You can help

The family are farmers, reliant on a small fish pond and some chickens for an income. But many of their chickens died in the floods, while all their fish were swept away.

As well as this, three of Nguyen’s children were hospitalised with diarrhoea, vomiting and fever after accidentally drinking contaminated water.

Theirs is just one story of devastation and disaster following Typhoon Bualoi and Typhoon Matmo.

Barnabas Aid’s project partner – a network of Vietnamese churches – is looking to provide emergency aid.

They aim to provide food, medical supplies and home repairs.

The Word of God reminds us to be open-handed towards those of our brothers and sisters who endure poverty and great need (Deuteronomy 15:11).

Could you give now to help your sister Nguyen and others like her?

How you can pray

Father God, we pray urgently for those suffering in the aftermath of typhoons Bualoi and Mato, especially our brothers and sisters in Christ. Please bless the work of Barnabas Aid partners in ministering to the poor and needy. Please provide for those who have lost their income, heal those who are sick or injured, and sustain their faith amidst hardship, for we ask it in our Saviour’s Name.
