Unknown gunmen abducted a pastor’s wife and a female church member on the evening of Sunday 21 September from the church leader’s home in Nasarawa State in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

Patience Nasamu, who is breastfeeding a three-month-old baby, was kidnapped along with a member of the church who came to visit the family after a Sunday service in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area (LGA).

Her husband, Pastor Samuel Nasamu, explained that he had just left the house to visit and pray for a sick member of the congregation when he received a phone call from his distressed wife.

“All I could hear was her voice of prayer,” said the pastor. “She could not even tell me what was happening.

“When I got to the house my wife and a member were abducted, leaving my three-month-old baby behind,” he continued.

It seems that the gunmen had intimidated the women into opening the door to the property, having tried unsuccessfully to use a hammer to break in.

Unfamiliar individuals on motorcycles had been reported in the community earlier that evening. Police investigations are continuing.

How you can pray

Pray for the safe return of Patience Nasamu and the female church member, and that they will draw strength and comfort from the Lord while in captivity. Ask God to direct the security forces to locate the perpetrators and bring them to account. Pray that this Christian community in shock will find peace in the Lord at this difficult time.
