Worshippers kidnapped during a deadly attack on a church in Kwara State, western Nigeria, have been rescued.
Thirty-eight Christians were abducted by Fulani Islamist extremists who attacked Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, on November 18, killing three of the congregation.
Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu confirmed the rescue of the worshippers in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, November 23.

“Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State have been rescued,” he stated.
Tinubu also expressed his joy that 51 of the more than 300 students abducted from a Christian school in Niger State on November 23 have been recovered.
The President, who has faced rising criticism over deteriorating security in Nigeria following the attack on St. Mary’s Papiri Private Secondary School, said he was closely monitoring the situation.
“Let me be clear: I will not relent,” he said. “Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety – and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people.”
