Ten Christians were left dead after an attack by Islamists in the village of Komoza, Borno State, north-eastern Nigeria on April 8.

The terrorists also burned down a church building and seven houses.

The attack was reported via the social media channels of Islamic State (IS – also known as ISIS, ISIL, Daesh) in a statement which described “soldiers of the caliphate … targeting Christians[s] with machine guns.”

A church was burned down in another Islamic State attack in the Christian-majority village of Korohuma, Borno State, earlier this year.

The believers were termed “combatants,” a designation used by IS provinces in sub-Saharan Africa to refer to Christians who have neither converted to Islam nor accepted dhimmi status as subjugated people.

Borno State has been the scene of increased activity by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram in recent months.

On the day following this attack 18 Nigerian soldiers including a Brigadier-General were also killed by ISWAP in the state.

In mid-March around 200 people – both Christians and Muslims – were slaughtered by Islamists in Gwoza Local Government Area, while 23 people were killed in a suicide bombing in the state capital of Maiduguri.

Tens of thousands of Christians have been killed by Islamists over the last 15 years in what church leaders have referred to as an anti-Christian “genocide.”

At least 24 were killed and more than 30 abducted in several attacks in the Middle Belt states of Benue and Plateau on Easter Sunday.

How You Can Pray

Ask the Lord to bring an end to the insurgency in Borno State, for the sake of all people, especially our brothers and sisters in Christ. Pray for peace from terrorists and armed criminal gangs throughout northern and Middle Belt Nigeria, and for the Lord’s protection over Christian communities who are targeted by Islamists.
