Two Christians were captured and killed by Islamists in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, on February 23.
The execution-style killings were claimed by Islamic State Mozambique (IS-M) in a social media post.
The two Christians were taken as they traveled along the road towards Congreso in Cabo Delgado’s Macomia District.

In recent months, IS-M activity in Macomia District has forced many residents to flee their homes and seek refuge in the district capital. IS-M is still in control of the Quiterajo administrative area of the province.
On February 22, IS-M attacked what it described as “a Christian trade convoy accompanied by a Mozambican army patrol near the village of Congreso,” killing two.
The Islamists have killed an estimated 2,000 Christians across Cabo Delgado since the beginning of an insurgency in October 2017.
