Patrick Sookhdeo, the founder of Barnabas Aid, died on Monday 18th May. His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in the history of the Barnabas Family of ministries.
Patrick was undoubtedly a man of vision, intellect, and determination. Through his work, Barnabas Aid drew the attention of countless Christians around the world to the suffering, persecution, and displacement of believers, particularly in parts of the world that many in the West neither saw nor understood. Many suffering Christians were helped through ministries that emerged under his leadership, and many people first became aware of the realities of Christian persecution because of his voice and advocacy.
Patrick leaves behind a mixed legacy, but at moments such as this, our first instinct should be prayer. We remember before God Rosemary, their children and grandchildren, wider family members, friends, colleagues, and all those who loved Patrick and now mourn his passing.
As members of the Barnabas Family of ministries, we will continue to honour the original calling of Barnabas Aid, the vital mission of “doing good to all people, but especially to those of the household of faith” [Galatians 6:10].
May God grant comfort to those who grieve, wisdom to those who lead, and humility to us all as we reflect upon life, legacy, mortality, and eternity.
