“But what can I do to help?”
This is the question we often ask ourselves when we consider the world around us – a world of hunger and hardship – a world of one disaster after another.
But the Word of God tells us not to grow weary in doing good for our neighbours, and especially our brothers and sisters in Christ (Galatians 6:9-10).
And Christians in war-torn South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), need your help to get back on their feet.

South Kivu has suffered for many years – and even more so in 2025 from the armed conflict between Rwandan-backed M23 rebels and the Congolese armed forces.
Barnabas Aid’s project partner described “persistent displacement, disrupted livelihoods, and collapse of essential public services and infrastructure”.
Well over a million people were displaced in South and North Kivu by the violence.
“As displaced families return home, they find themselves in unsafe, devastated areas,” continues our partner. “They are without shelter, have little access to land, and face ongoing security threats.”
You have already provided pigs for Christian communities in northern Ghana and central Nigeria. These projects are “ideal for restoring income and food security,” says our project partner in D. R. Congo
Barnabas is funding a new farming initiative for a Christian community in South Kivu. God willing, our supporters will provide 55 pigs (five males and 50 females) that will be owned collectively by 300 households (around 1,500 people).
“Pig farming is well-suited to the region,” continues our partner. “It requires little land, the pigs reproduce quickly, and it offers high economic returns.
“This makes it ideal for restoring income and food security.”
The project will also help to bring the community together in co-operation with one another. Local pastors will oversee the work, highlighting, says our partner, “the church’s role as a cornerstone of resilience, healing, and sustainable development”.
In a world of sin and despair, God’s Word (Zechariah 7:9-10) invites you to minister compassion to the poor and the suffering, to the least of your brothers and sisters in Christ.
How you can pray
Father God, we pray that You will meet the needs of your people in South Kivu, who have suffered greatly from the consequences of violent conflict. Please turn their sorrow to rejoicing, their trauma to comfort and their hardship to blessing, for we ask it in the Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
