Bringing light behind bars in Cambodia

Thanks to the prayers and generous gifts of Barnabas Aid supporters, Christians in Cambodia who are in prison are discovering hope and transformation through practical care and spiritual support.

In a context where incarceration often brings isolation, fear and loss of purpose, your gifts have helped support a ministry working within several correctional centres to bring the light of Christ into difficult and restricted environments.

Through regular church services inside prisons, inmates who have come to faith are able to gather for worship, receive pastoral care, and grow in faith together as a community.

“God has given me a new heart and a new purpose,” shared one inmate. “I will continue to serve Him when I am released.”

More than 100 now take part in worship services, where they are encouraged not only spiritually but also through practical programmes that help them prepare for life after release.

A dedicated worship space is also being developed in one facility, providing a safe and consistent place for prayer, discipleship and teaching. For many inmates, this is the first time they have experienced stable community and encouragement.

Educational training in areas such as language learning and basic computer skills is equipping prisoners with tools for a more hopeful future.

How you can pray

Pray for new believers in Cambodian prisons. Give thanks for the Christian communities that have been established inside correctional facilities, and for the pastors and volunteers who serve faithfully in often challenging conditions. Pray that inmates who are learning new skills will be able to reintegrate into society with dignity and stability upon release. Ask God to protect them spiritually and emotionally, and to strengthen their hope in Christ even in difficult circumstances.
