Joven and Jessica work hard for their two disabled children. You would do the same.
Their eldest, Jay-Jay, has difficulties with speech and fine motor skills. Their young daughter Nicole suffers from cerebral palsy.
Joven has regular employment as a driver, while Jessica bakes and sells rice cakes – but with the cost of Nicole’s treatment they still struggle to make ends meet.
“Daily living is a big challenge for the family,” says Barnabas Aid’s project partner, a church in Manila. “It’s not only their basic needs but how to sustain Nicole’s medical needs.”
Many Christians in the Philippines have a similar experience. They are marginalised and impoverished. Sometimes they suffer discrimination for their faith.
But the church has a plan – and you can make it happen.

A vital source of income
They are purchasing 200 sacks of rice – the staple food in the Philippines – which can be purchased by members of the church at a discount.
The church members can then sell the rice for a profit. Some of this will pay for the necessities of life – food, medicine, utility bills. Some can be used to purchase more rice to sell.
Each sack of rice is therefore the beginning of a sustainable small business, and a vitally important source of additional income for Christians such as Joven and Jessica.
“This will empower impoverished Christians,” says the church. “They can achieve greater financial stability.”
But they can only achieve it with your help.
Could you help to set up a Christian in a sustainable small business? Could you donate towards the cost of buying rice? Could you pray for the Lord’s blessing on this work?
How you can pray
Lord God and Heavenly Father, please provide for the material needs of our impoverished brothers and sisters in the Philippines. We pray that the rice-selling project will lead to an additional, sustainable source of income for those struggling to make ends meet. Thank You for their steadfast faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, in whose Name we pray.
