Christian woman who endured ten days of interrogation in Iran due to face court

22 July 2019

Prayers are requested for 61-year-old Christian Roksari Kanbari as she prepares to face court in Iran on a charge of “propaganda against the system”.

Roksari is due to appear before the Karaj Islamic Revolutionary Court on 27 July. She was arrested in December 2018 at her home in Karaj, close to Tehran, by three intelligence officers who seized mobile phones, Bibles and other Christian material.

The wife and mother endured ten days of intensive interrogation “from morning until evening”. She was then taken before a prosecutor to answer charges of “acting against national security” and forced to go to an Islamic religious leader to be “instructed” and “offered the opportunity to return to Islam”.

Roksari was finally released when bail of 30 million toman (around £5,500, €6,120, $6,900) was paid.

A local source said Roksari is encouraged that people are aware of her situation and are praying for her.

The whereabouts of four other women arrested from church groups in Karaj at the same time as Roksari are unknown.
