“If you have a Bible, please turn with me to …”
If you were at church on Sunday, you probably heard these or similar words inviting you to follow along with the Bible reading that day.
Perhaps this week you’ve had other opportunities to open the Bible at a small group or mid-week church meeting; with family; or as part of your own personal devotions.
Many believers don’t have these opportunities, as you probably know. But you can help.
Pastors and church leaders trained by our project partner will distribute Bibles in local languages to persecuted and impoverished believers
Barnabas Aid is partnering with a Christian ministry in Ethiopia to provide 4,500 Bibles in the local languages of Amharic, Oromo and Tigrigna.
Bibles in these languages are hard to find.
And even when Bibles in these languages can be found, in war-torn and desperately impoverished Ethiopia many of your brothers and sisters simply cannot afford them.
These 4,500 Bibles will be targeted at those who have only recently come to faith; believers who have experienced persecution; churches in areas affected by the civil wars and conflicts in Amhara, Oromo and Tigray; and families suffering poverty and destitution.
The Macaafa Qulqulluu (Oromo for “Holy Bible”). Can you share the unshakeable hope found only in the Word of God?
The Bibles will “equip believers for maturity in Christ and strengthen the evangelistic and discipleship efforts of local churches”, says Barnabas Aid’s project partner.
Pastors and church leaders trained using Barnabas funding will be tasked with distributing the Bibles as part of their ministry.
“The heart of this initiative,” adds our partner, “is to walk alongside churches and believers in their faith journey, offering encouragement and hope through Scripture.”
Can you join your brothers and sisters in Ethiopia to share the unshakeable hope found only in the Word of God?
How you can pray
Our Father, thank You for Your Word, which guides Your people in truth and righteousness. We pray that more and more of our brothers and sisters will have access to Bibles that they can read in their own languages. Please equip them through the Holy Spirit to make the Lord Jesus Christ known, for we ask it in His precious Name.
