The gifts of Barnabas Aid supporters have provided urgently needed food to around 1,750 Christians in South Sudan.
In June 2025 humanitarian experts reported that thousands of South Sudanese people are at risk of famine.
Barnabas Aid’s project partners distributed maize flour, sorghum, lentils and cooking oil to 250 households in the Aweil region of the country.
More than 1,750 hungry Christians received urgently needed food
“For weeks I survived by eating wild leaves and through prayer,” said one of the recipients, an elderly widow.
“I have lived many years, but I have never seen a day like this,” she added. “When I received this food, I sat down and wept because I knew God had not forgotten me.”

South Sudan is widely considered to be the most impoverished country in the world. In this region, Aweil, food insecurity has been worsened by conflict and natural disasters. Added to this is the strain on food supply caused by increased numbers of refugees from neighbouring Sudan.
“Thank you for not only giving food but for giving dignity,” said a South Sudanese pastor who helped distribute the aid. “The people saw the love of Christ through you.”
How you can pray
Praise the Lord that He does not forget His people and that our brothers and sisters in South Sudan have been strengthened in the love of Christ. Pray that He will continue to provide for those in need.
