Wife of missing pastor appeals to Malaysia PM after court setback

11 August 2026

The wife of missing Pastor Raymond Koh has appealed to Malaysia’s Prime Minister (PM) to intervene after the Court of Appeal upheld a stay (postponement) on an order requiring police to reopen investigations into her husband’s disappearance nine years ago.

Susanna Liew told Anwar bin Ibrahim that she was writing directly to him because time is of the essence to discover what happened to Pastor Raymond. The father-of-three was abducted, at the age of 63, by armed men while driving near his home in Kuala Lumpur on 13 February 2017.

“I write not as a litigant, but as a wife who has been left in unbearable uncertainty,” Susanna wrote. “I do not know where my husband is. I do not know if he is safe. I do not know if I will ever see him again.”

In a landmark judgement in November 2025, the Malaysian High Court held the government and police responsible for the pastor’s abduction, and ordered a new investigation into the pastor’s whereabouts, as well as awarding record damages to his family. Both orders were stayed following an appeal by the government.

On 29 July 2026, the Court of Appeal dismissed Susanna’s application to lift the stays.

In her letter to the PM, she said she was “shocked and troubled” by the decision.

“Every day that the investigations remain halted is another day in which the truth becomes more difficult to uncover, evidence becomes more vulnerable and the possibility of obtaining justice for my husband diminishes.”

Susanna reminded the PM that investigations by the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia in 2019 and a cabinet-appointed Special Task Force in 2020 had both concluded that state agents were involved in Pastor Raymond’s disappearance and had recommended urgent, independent and comprehensive investigations.

How you can pray

Pray that the Malaysian Prime Minister will act on Susanna’s heartfelt plea and order an immediate independent investigation into Pastor Raymond’s disappearance. Ask the Lord to comfort and give courage to Susanna and her family as they come to terms with this setback. Pray that justice will prevail (Psalm 94:15).
