Hear from our special guest speaker, who makes a difference for our Christian brothers and sisters in Nigeria.

A special guest speaker is coming to Encourage on 21 June to talk about how we can show God’s love to vulnerable and persecuted Christians in Nigeria.

Nigeria is considered one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a Christian

Helping God’s people and raising awareness

Our guest speaker is helping Barnabas do incredible work in a dangerous environment – for security reasons we cannot share his name. He places himself at serious risk by personally helping vulnerable Christians in Nigeria, who are frequently attacked by Islamists.

This speaker has worked for the Church in Nigeria for many years, as a pastor, humanitarian aid worker and journalist. As well as working to build peace and help the vulnerable in Nigeria, he has used his journalistic skills to raise awareness of Christian suffering to the rest of the world. Among other things, he led the team who broke the news of the 2014 kidnapping of Chibok schoolgirls by Boko Haram.

At Encourage, he will be speaking about the privilege God has given Christians to be His representatives on Earth, by sharing practical demonstrations of His love to the downtrodden. He will highlight how Barnabas Aid has helped achieve this in Nigeria, with powerful testimonies from those who have benefitted from our work.

Persecuted by multiple Islamist groups

Christian persecution in Nigeria is rife. Particularly in the Middle Belt, which sits between the predominantly Muslim north and predominantly Christian south of the country, Islamist attacks have been occurring for many years with increasing frequency. In April 2025 alone, more than 180 were killed by Islamists.

There are multiple Islamist terrorist groups operating in Nigeria, including Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province and Fulani extremists. These groups launch frequent and fatal attacks on Christian villages, and kidnap Christians for ransom or forced conversion.

Barnabas helps victims of violence

Barnabas Aid has been working in Nigeria for many years, providing aid and hope to God’s persecuted children.

This has included first aid kits and other medical items for victims of violence, mosquito nets, blankets and mats for those displaced from their homes, basic materials to repair damaged houses, and other necessities such as food.
