Our project partner from Lebanon is coming to Encourage on 21 June 2025 to talk about the work of non-government organisations (NGOs) for Christian communities in Lebanon. For security reasons, we are not sharing our partner’s name, but we can tell you that she is helping Barnabas do incredible work in a challenging environment. She has helped build an extensive network of NGOs and change-makers who collaborate to help struggling Lebanese communities, acquiring grants and running many successful humanitarian aid projects in the region.

International support for Lebanese Christians
Our project partner will be drawing on her impressive array of experience to inform you about the work of Barnabas and other similar organisations in Lebanon. She will emphasise the importance of international support for these NGOs and the Christians they help, explaining how this helps maintain Lebanon as a free, equal and diverse community.

The 2024 war between Hezbollah and Israel has left deep scars on the country
Political instability and social tensions in Lebanon
Lebanon is unique in the Middle East for its relatively balanced religious diversity. The country's political system ensures the representation of different religious groups, including Christians. Despite these protections, Lebanon’s Christians face challenges stemming from political instability, economic collapse, and regional tensions. Lebanon’s economy has struggled for many years, and many people there live in poverty.
Historically, Lebanon has been a safe haven for believers fleeing persecution in the region. But the rise of extremist groups in neighbouring countries and sporadic sectarian violence within Lebanon have heightened concerns about security. Christian towns and neighbourhoods have occasionally faced targeted attacks during periods of political unrest. The 2024 war between Hezbollah and Israel has left deep scars on the country. Lebanon’s Christian community has shown resilience in rebuilding its institutions, but the threat of further instability remains a constant concern.
